FAQs
What is a Birth Doula and why should we hire one?
1
A Birth Doula's role is to provide emotional and physical support, evidence-based information, assistance with planning, and empowerment during birth. Research shows that having the support that a doula provides decreases the likelihood of unnecessary medical interventions and allows for a more natural, positive birth experience and recovery through postpartum.
When can/should I hire a doula?
2
You can book as early as your first trimester all the way into your third trimester. Though the longer we have together, the more we get to know each other and prepare for your birth. Booking between 12-20 weeks ensures we have time to schedule prenatal visits to go over all the information and questions you may have. I do book on a first-come, first-serve basis and have limited spots that can fill quickly, so if you are curious or considering, definitely schedule a free consult to get started!
What makes you different?
3
I believe in a holistic, personalized approach to doula support and offer a unique perspective with my Occupational Therapy background. OT offers a functional perspective and doula support focuses on your experience— both value meaning and putting you at the center of everything. I believe birth to be an incredibly powerful, transformative life event that women’s bodies were designed to experience, not simply a medical event requiring intervention and treatment.
Does a doula take away from or replace my partner's support?
4
Not at all! Our goal is to support both you and provide space, knowledge, and tools for your partner to be as actively involved in your birth as desired. I am an additional presence that can think of and take care of the little things so you and your partner can focus on each other and work together through this experience.
Do doulas only support un-medicated and home births?
5
Definitely not! My role is to support you through whatever your birth journey looks like, wherever it occurs- whether you choose a hospital, birth center, or home setting, or whether you are going to be induced, have a cesarean, get an epidural, or desire an un-medicated, natural birth. Doula support adapts to all situations because it is centered around YOU.
